The University of Rochester is strong academically (# 47 in National Universities, # 30 in Best Value Schools), has an excellent research program, caring professors and many resources (labs, many libraries, outdoor spaces, and sports facilities). The schools of business, engineering, music, nursing, UR medicine (6 hospitals), among others, are excellent. UofR offers 275 clubs and organizations and has a beautiful campus! Food is good and varied and there are 14 locations around campus to enjoy it. Safety is a real issue only if you walk in town very late at night in places you are not supposed to go. Rochester ranks among the best cities to live in the US! The negative reviews are recent and I believe have to do with the protests concerning the Middle East conflict. The administration dealt with these protests in a pacific and fair way. I advise a visit to Uof R to see for yourself and talk with students and alumni to learn this is a great place to study and make your home.

Even though UR is a STEM school, it still has really amazing humanity and social science departments! I'm a history major, so that's obviously really important to me. The school could definitely use some improvement in the area of food though, it doesn't have diverse enough options for students with specific dietary restrictions such as gluten-free, vegan, halal, etc.

I have loved my experience attending the University of Rochester. The vast expanse of culture that exists both on and beyond the River Campus has broadened my perspective and exposed me to individuals hailing from myriad personal backgrounds. I have attempted to utilize all resources possible to reap the most of the education I am so fortunate to receive--from TA's office hours to the tutoring center and writing fellows alike. However, I would like to see professors treat students with more humanity. Although there are a handful of professors who are understanding about circumstances beyond a student's control coming in the way of their studies, others are unforgiving and expect a disadvantaged student to perform just like their advantaged counterparts. I believe this is simply an example of inequitable education, and I would deeply like to see a change among student-professor relationships.
