Get a glimpse of Native American history and life at the Aztec Ruins National Monument. Located close to the town of Aztec, this place provides walking tours that allow visitors to discover the ruins at their own pace. Some of the highlights of this place include the Great Kiva, a spiritual center that allows you to experience the Native American congregation, as well as the museum which provides you with a deeper insight of the community and displays some old and interesting artifacts. The park also has several rangers who are ready to help and come with a wealth of information and knowledge on the history of the place.
Located within the vicinity of the Pioneer Village, Aztec Museum exhibits a plethora of items that show how the city has been a pioneer in the state for using natural gas at both domestic and industrial levels. There's a life-size oil rig and doghouse on-site that are accompanied by a plethora of oil field tools. Apart from that, the Pioneer Room at the Aztec Museum offers information, by way of photographs and artifacts, about the most influential families of the region. Aztec Museum has an impressive collection of antique clocks, telephone equipment, native art, mining tools along with a display of fossils, rock collections and minerals.
A local neighborhood park, Kiwanis Park is a nice place to bring your kids. The park has a nice playground for kids, as well as picnic tables and plenty of place to run around.
Located on the main street in the town of Farmington, the Farmington Museum and Visitor's Center comprises two permanent exhibits; one revolves around the history of Farmington which is known as 'Farmington: 100 Years of Change', and another known as 'From Dinosaurs to Drill Bits'. Also hosted are various indoor and outdoor events along with regional and national art exhibitions from time to time.
Lions Wilderness Amphitheater is a vibrant event venue during summers. Professional and local artists get an opportunity to present their musicals or dramas against a scenic backdrop.
